TESTIMONIALS

Dear Deni: Back in Montreal, I just wanted to let you know again how much I appreciated your classes.  It has been so much a wonderful experience and I feel that you transformed my life in many ways.  For the first time in my life, I feel that I have the power to improve my physical strength and that I have a certain control over my polio condition regardless of the fact that the doctors kept telling me that I could never become stronger.  Every time I heard this comment, there was a voice inside of me saying that it was not true but it was hard to feel that I was right against the medical establishment.  Your love and dedication as a teacher gave me just what I needed to start believing in me and I wish to thank you again.  By the way, I just love your CD music and I can't wait to have your video.  I am presently trying different yoga studios and I will not give until I find something suitable for my needs. Best regards and looking forward to see next December, Ginette Quintal-Solomon, Canada

Hi Deni, Well you keep your promise...I feel like I am climbing to a new level.   The new level is going to require me to weigh a little less (or I will never be able to hold myself up for long in the inversions).  So I have begun the work on my diet.  I started a year ago, but I am re-doubling my efforts. Thank you for your core yoga classes.  I get it (I think!).  I am doing the movement in the hips and shoulders every day. I think I am seeing a real change in my shoulders...at first I thought I had injured myself, but now I realize that I am just breaking through some stiffness that has been there for decades.Thank you for inspiring me to show up for myself every day. I am pleased to say that one lady I had shared my story with has also decided to show up for herself every day.  She has challenged herself to one year, but is taking it 30 days at a time.  Another friend of mine decided to take up yoga after seeing the benefits that it has wrought in me.  And that is how it works isn’t it...you inspire me...I inspire them and they inspire someone else! I just wanted to thank you for being there, for being a flame of inspiration for others to ignite from! Your faithful student, Katherine, Canada

I wanted to write and thank you for the excellent yoga classes I attended while on vacation on Maui. I came to Maui to get married, it was the most beautiful wedding day I could have ever imagined. Your yoga classes allowed me to be centered and I felt very relaxed and ready for the day. I really loved your classes, Evan, your style is awesome and you were very motivating. I hope to see you again whenever I return. Until then, Namaste. Melissa MacAulay, British Columbia, Canada.

Deni things have shifted for me in so many ways since meeting you and coming to your yoga sessions.  It is absolutely the best thing I have done for myself in years.  You are an awesome teacher, and I am in awe of your knowledge!  You have the gift of being able to teach so that students can easily grasp the idea and make it their own.  Thank you for your wonderful classes.  I am so happy to have you in my life!  Love, Valery, Kihei

Hi Deni, I just wanted to thank you once again for you sharing your Yoga knowledge experience with me. Your classes were the highlight of my Maui trip. Marleane Scott, Nevada

Hi Deni! I enjoy seeing what you are doing there in paradise. My brief time working with you over Christmas has served me very well. I returned to Seattle and committed to a regular yoga program beginning with two intro series. It has made a huge difference with my arthritic knees and general well being. I've also signed up for rowing 2x a week which compliments and is complimented by the yoga. So, I just wanted to say thank you again for facilitating my launch into a much healthier life. Have a great day Sara Hemphill

Greetings from Calgary! I went to Astanga yoga this morning it is somewhat unsatisfactory now, but it will be ok for once a week. Tomorrow I will do my first home practice! Thank you for everything! I feel much more whole now...less worried...less stressed...more trusting that things will go as they should. You are missed but your energy is with me. Thank you! Take care and I hope India goes exactly as it is supposed to! With love and fondness, Katherine Good, Canada

I've learned so much from you in the short time I've been coming and as well as my family members that have joined me. Your amazing and have so much knowledge to share in a class that we dont want the class to end. Thanks for such excellent yoga instruction and over all body wellness. I overheard you mention the other day about working on a DVD - I would very much be interested in purchasing one from you when it's completed. Sincerely Lois Stoppler, Canada

Deni, My thanks again for another inspiring transformational retreat. It was a divine and beautiful group and you make it a safe place for us to be comfortable to share and reveal who we are with all our inperfections.Your unigue gift of sharing your truth with all of us has helped me to commit to this yoga path on and off the mat. I choose to be responsible for me. I know yoga has the answers to help bring that awareness. Gratefully, Barbara Drake, Maui/Canada, 2009

The retreat with Deni was TRULY Transformational! It is said that there are many paths to enlightment and your teachings have certainly shown me many new ones to explore: yoga, pranayama, walking meditation, journaling, movement to open the energy body... WOW! Experience = transformation. Thank you for sharing your beautiful energy and vast knowledge, which has greatly improved my life and many others. Christine Arnesen, Maui, 2007

I am going to a yoga class this morning, looking forward to the pleasant exertion of stretching and strengthening my body. The class is given at the Mana Kai Maui Resort. This is my first time here, and I find the location and approach the entrance. The resort is a hi-rise condominium complex located directly next to the shoreline. Two women introduce themselves to me and are asking me questions, and I am getting flustered, wondering where do I pay, and which one is the teacher. Then I see a third woman standing near the door, greeting students. Her black hair is pulled into a tight bun. She is wearing a black leotard, and her face and eyes radiate kindness. I say hello and ask her for her name. "Deni," she says. Her posture is disciplined but relaxed and grounded, and her eyes reveal she is empathetic and perceptive enough to pick up on my nervousness. I feel better. Class starts with a breathing/meditation exercise, then we begin to move and stretch. During a standing forward bend, with my face to my knees, I notice with gentle surprise that the cut on my shin has all but healed. Being in and out of Maui ocean water has been good for me. The cut would have taken twice as long to heal at home. As Deni talks us into poses, she provides a wealth of instruction on body adjustments, yoga history and pose variations for those (like me) who need it. She circulates around the room, assisting many of the students individually and works with me several times, encouraging me and helping me get deeper into the poses. At the end of class, my body feels engaged and deeply relaxed. The other students and I extend our respectful farewell to Deni and put our props away. Then, I walk out the door of the basement yoga studio and contemplate the ocean in front of me. The waves seem to be beckoning to me. A school of thimble-sized fish darts about in the aquamarine water at my feet. I can't resist shedding my t-shirt and shorts and wading in for a quick dip. The transparency of the water and the rocky area jutting out promise good snorkeling, so I leave to find Z and entice him back with tantalizing but vague remarks about this wonderful beach he "just has" to see. Aloha, Teresa Morissette, CA

We have both been taking yoga classes from Deni for about five years. The Maui Yoga Path is the best yoga program we have ever been involved in and Deni is the best yoga instructor we have ever had. We, as well as other couples we know plan trips to Maui just for more of Deni`s instruction in this excellent program. We have taken many group classes at the Maui Yoga Path, which are remarkably geared to all levels. We have also been to retreats, workshops and had personal instruction in Deni`s program all of which were the most informative instruction we have ever had. We feel truly blessed to be able to participate in the Maui Yoga Path and have met many others who feel the same way we do. We feel Deni and The Maui Yoga Path are a real asset to the Mana Kai. Sincerely, Kris and Anji Poulsen.

Dear Deni, You have always been Mana Kai's best kept secret! Lucky for me, I found my way to your Maui Yoga Path a number of years ago. It was a life changing experience. In all my travels, I have yet to find anyone with your knowledge and dedication. I eagerly look forward to spending my mornings in your classes when I am in Maui. How fortunate for the Mana Kai owners and guests if you 'grace' their marquis with your name. Much Aloha, Yolanda, Maui & LA

Aloha Deni, I have to tell you I am so thrilled and surprised by my newfound desire to be on my mat! I have actually been able to do my own home practice, which I have never been able to do confidently, and with inspiration. I am able to work through a complete series of asanas, about 90 minutes, at approx. 80% output - meaning I always work a little harder when there is an instructor present. Still, I am surprised at my ability to focus in and challenge myself on my own. I feel the corrections/info that you 'drilled' into me are sustaining me and I believe I am approaching the postures with intelligence and wisdom - go figure! I miss your classes! You have given me a great gift. I hope you are enjoying your poems! Love, Donna-Lynne, Canada.

Aloha Deni, I want to share a little story with you. I was asked about a week ago to do a gig this evening for the Wailuku First Friday event. The gig was to play and sing several songs providing background music for an artist doing an exhibit at Gallerie Ha on Market Street. It was very cool. The artist was creating a collage related to a theme of The Wind so I played (what else?) wind songs: Catch the Wind, Four Strong Winds, The Call the Wind Mariah, Dust in the Wind, Candle in the Wind, Against the Wind, Mandolin Wind, you get the idea. I had lots of fun with it. Anyway, for some reason when I woke this morning I was nervous about doing this gig. I couldn't put my finger on exactly what I was anxious about. I was still feeling this when I got to yoga this morning. But as I began my practice and as I began focusing on the asanas and on my breathing this anxiety began to fade. By the time class ended it had disappeared completely, and more importantly it never returned. I just got back from my performance which went very well. I know you weren't aware of any of this. I want to thank you for your contribution in helping me have a successful performance. Namaste, Michael Elam, Maui

Deni, I wanted to take this opportunity to express what a great spiritual teacher you have been for me. I am so grateful. The day I walked into the Maui Yoga path changed my life. Thank you for the time and effort you give to your Yoga lessons that helped me to connect to a deeper awareness inside myself. I loved the asana practice you created each day for us. I always left class feeling lighter and happier. I take home with me the Maui Yoga Path and know I will hear you when I get on the mat. My teacher, enjoy the summer. Namaste, Barbara, Maui & Canada

Deni, thank you for the wonderful experience of your teachings. The Yoga Retreat was a reminder for me to breathe deep and enjoy the moments of life. (Why am I hurrying?) Thank you for the joy of inner reflection and sharing. It is nice to see that there are others who live to make a difference in the lives of those around them. Wishing you peace and joy in all that you do. Deborah, Maui

Deni, have thought often of the many beautiful gifts that you so gracious have shared in your own personal journey---"Dance as if no one is watching" Finding ones own rhythm, truth and being--and honouring it from a greater place--Our Heavenly Father. Thank you for the moments shared in our flowing walk together over the years. For the encouragement ,the experience and especially the more life changing opportunity of the retreat. Will write further on the unveiling--similar to an onion--many more layers and as more fall away, the power of each layer cause much welling--some in celebration and some in bittersweetness. A truly inspirational walk. With warm wishes-- Elaine, Canada

Deni, I wanted to say 'mahalo' one more time and let you know just how much my yoga time with you on Maui meant to me. Holiday expectations are often unrealistic fantasies about relaxing and getting away from it all. I was looking to be in the moment and have some quality time with me and for me. You are such a compassionate, fun and demanding teacher. I am looking forward to a return to Mother Maui and more time with you, exploring yoga. Yours in spirit, Merriann Person, Kelowna BC

Dear Deni, I can't thank you enough for the retreat last week, which was TRULY transformational! It is said that there are many paths to enlightment and your teachings have certainly shown me many new ones to explore. My practice for many years consisted of only sitting meditation and reading spiritual books but I now know that there is so much more! Journaling, pranayama, walking meditation, movement to open the energy body...WOW! Experience = transformation! I've gained so much and am so grateful to live on Maui so I can continue to learn from you. Thank you for sharing your beautiful energy and vast knowledge, which has greatly improved my life and many others. Much Love and Aloha, Christine, Maui

Aloha Deni, You may not remember me as it has been two years since I was in Maui. I'm from Alaska and came to your classes for a couple of years while staying in Kihei. You gave a private lesson to my husband, Herb as my Christmas gift to him. Unfortunately he passed away very unexpectedly in November 2006. That' why I wasn't there last year. It has been a difficult and long year going through the grief process, but I am now stronger as a result of that experience. I was recently in Maui for three weeks over the holidays and left on Jan. 4. I was hoping to see you before I left the island. At first I was disappointed that you were not there to teach classes, but as generally ends up being the case, we find something unexpected and positive in those circumstances. For me that was your lovely daughter Evan. What a delightful and talented young woman she is! I loved her teaching style with emphasis on strength and attention todetail in the joints. I enjoy taking all styles of yoga and learning from different instructors, as each has their own unique way of teaching and Evan's is very special.I am considering moving to Maui and will look forward to taking yoga from you when I am there. Regards, Bette, Wasilla, Alaska

Just to thank Evan for the wonderful five sessions I had with her over the Christmas break! What a charming daughter you have! Be proud.......and a very good teacher as well.....it takes one to know one!!! June Harrison

Hi Deni! I hope you remember me, but understand if you don't (smile). I took a months worth of your classes in December 2005. At the time my family was living on Maui part time, and planning on returning full time in June 2006. A lot has changed. With the changes in the real estate market in California and Hawaii, we experienced, for the first time, what it was like to lose money. A LOT of money. So much money we ended up filing personal bankruptcy and starting all over again. Taking classes in your studio literally changed my life. It's strange and wonderful how we attract things that we need into our lives. In the year before I came to your studio we spent so much time on island doing everything but enjoying ourselves. Running from one side of the island to the other like cats chasing our tails. Each time I boarded the plane to Maui, I said that I would spend time every day doing yoga on the beach. It never happened until one morning I was running, and ran right past your studio. I began at your studio that very day and came every single day until I got on the plane back to Sacramento. I haven't been to Maui since I left in 2005. I spent the morning in your class crying. I cried on the plane home. The very next morning after arriving in Sacramento I went to have a root canal (ouch!), then I began my search for an Iyengar studio. Sad to say I didn't find another Iyengar studio. But there was a Bikram studio, so I went. 90 days straight in that hot room, still crying, but growing physically and emotionally stronger every day. I attend regularly and when I'm really beginning to feel out of sorts will attend non-stop for 30-60 days. Basically until I'm back in sorts .... (smile). Without my yoga practice I believe I would have suffered a nervous breakdown in 2006. I have dropped into yoga classes for years and years and never had an experience REMOTELY similar to the experience I had in your classroom on Maui. So, thank you again and again Deni Roman, for introducing me to a better way of being alive. Thank you for this gift of calm and mental clarity. Thank you for the strength and flexibility my body enjoys. Thank you for advice, "Be like bamboo: bending on the outside, hollow on the inside". Thank you for being an example as well as a teacher. See you soon on Maui!!!! Namaste' T.P, CA

Hi Deni, I just wanted to say thank you for meeting with me a few weeks ago on such short notice. It has really helped my perspective on life, as did being on Maui. I have started using the green drink, eating more veggies and super foods, increasing (even more) my intake of alkaline water and noticing my pH. I am starting to feel like my sugar cravings are evening out and I am gaining more clarity and solutions. I even hope to hire a neighbor to baby sit the boys this summer so I can take a yoga class consistently. I am trying to consciously do something for myself every hour. Thank you for sharing your serenity with me and for reminding me how important it is to take care of myself. I am looking forward to a wonderful summer of being good to myself and my family. I hope that you have a wonderful trip to India and I hope to see you the next time I am in Kihei. Namaste, Kristin Wesel, Portland, OR

Dear Deni, Before I start, I want to talk about the most important gift I have received within the recent years from your classes and mainly from you which is being once again inspired. You have helped to do one thing I have tried to do for couple of years .. that is to change myself in a deep and spiritual way. I have stayed with my practice almost daily. I feel physically, mentally and most importantly spiritually much better over the past 2.5 months. You have once asked me to write a commentery about your class. I did not feel right about writing it right away because I did not wanted it to be based on a fleeting emotion which I have felt at the time. But now I have a deeper understanding of my own transformation. During your class I shared a frustrating thought of how I don't not know my calling and I am searching for it... since then I have realized that kind of thought process is exactly what has kept from reaching who I am. At this time of my life I feel very connected to my spirit and believe what ever I have done in my life until now was meant to be and as much as I always wanted to have such control (which is the force that has kept me from growing) I never did and will stay open to inspiration for whatever come to my path with open arms.. thank you for being you. Sepideh, CA and Maui

Deni -- I thoroughly enjoyed the yoga classes I was able to take from you. Thank you for adding to the wonderful memories I have of Maui. I hope to see you again sometime.Namaste. Melissa Quinn (from SUNNY Minnesota)

Devi Deni, Since my "blip" of awakening in December with you...I have been doing yoga at least 4 classes a week here in Marin. I am trying to work my way up to more. It is finding the time. I miss your classes so much. Your wisdom and spiritual connection that you bring to your teaching I have been unable to find. You are truly gifted with the power to inspire and motivate and for me the real challenge is getting out of my HEAD. Somehow the way you focus the mind on the asanas really worked for me, you always seemed to say something that journeyed me to the demension I want to be in. Your intensity or familiarity with people who have really intense HEAD stuff really helped me to quiet. I haven't
joined a meditation group yet but I am moving in that direction Thank you so much for inspiring me.Sarah, Marin, CA

I have wanted to thank you since returning to Seattle. Your class was the most powerful yoga class I have ever taken. Your choice of meditations (the ones that you read) was a daily gift. The words you chose to help us in our yoga put me in the most extreme postures I was capable of doing. You have integrated so much experience, devotion and wisdom into your classes. Just that week in Maui was a fork in the road for me. Funny how one true experience can last so long and set a keynote for a new path. Again, Namaste. Debbie

Dear Deni,Thought of you and your Yoga classes today. How I'd love to be there! Deni, can't tell you how much your classes added to my Maui experience. ( December 5 -11). You are so clear in your instruction while creating a delightful atmosphere of serenity. You give off a lot of positive energy, Lady! I hope some time in the future toattend your week long seminar. Fondly, Marlene

I can't thank you enough for your truly uplifting and life changing yoga practices. Since returning home, I feel like the molecules inside me have re-aligned and I face a new perspective on life with different priorities and a real sense of contentment. And while I don't know how...I know you played a key role. My Yoga practice continues here and I am still working on Tree Pose to be there with you all in spirit on September 18. My practice is changing...I just wish I was at the Yoga Path with you. You give Your ALL to your students, helping them to grow and transform into what they should Be. You continue to have a positive effect on me as I hear your voice during my home practices and continue on the path. With gratitude. Namaste. Joanne

I am gratefull for your advice to start a home practice. I think it has really been good for me to do for myself what is easier to let someone else do. Don`t remember if I told you but I have been practicing hand stands since you sent the e mail with the piece about practicing hand stands. I really didn`t think I would ever be able to do one without being afraid of falling but I now can. I just read what you sent and did what it said and at some point I decided I must be strong enough. Anyway that was quite exciting for me and I thought I would share that with you and say thank you again. We`ll be coming back for about 6 weeks this fall, in late Oct. and looking forward to seeing you and joining your class. Anji, Seattle

Deni, my heart is full and my mind is still. I feel an enormous gratitude to God for directing me to your Path. The little path up to your studio with the ocean on my right and a deep well of love and understanding awaiting me. When I looked into the reflective glass on your door, I saw a tired, anxious, pained and wounded man looking back at me. My seven peaceful and quiet days of private practice with you renewed me. I learned so much of real value that I was able to carry away with me and use in my daily practice. All the recommendations, web sites, books, and patience with a new sadhaka were life changing. I don't know why I came up your path but I sure am grateful. They say the teacher appears when the student is ready.Thank you for your kind encouragement and thank you for walking the path before me so that my road would be easier. With great respect and love, Richard, Your student forever, CA

Hi Deni, I've been back in Seattle now for over a month and doing yoga at home every day. I wanted to report that my hip injury (that required icing every day) is slowly healing. I can only attribute this to mindful yoga practice that you taught. (The injury was becoming chronic after 7 months without relief.) I'm very thankful and grateful to have found your classes. I hope to be back in Maui next winter. My best to you and your staff. Diane, Seattle

Aloha Deni, I would like to thank you from the bottom of heart for the great inspiration for doing yoga and improving our life qualities. We had wonderful time doing yoga with you in your very much spiritual studio. Please keep me on the list for your upcoming retreat, I will be happy if I can make it and have a week of yoga with you. Thanks a lot, Steffie, San Fransisco

Deni Roman is one of the most extraordinary yoga teachers I met and I have been exposed to quite a number of different yoga teachers, some of them of the highest caliber. Her classes are a sheer delight. There is a lovely lightness about her particular mixture of movement and Iyengar-style yoga. Her knowledge of Iyengar yoga is very deep. However, unlike most Iyengar teachers who often overload students with too many details, Deni has the gift of selecting the most important and critical alignment instructions and keeping it simple and yet very effective. I felt I made enormous progress in the scant two months I have studied with her thanks to her efficient and inspirational teachings. Deni is a highly spiritual person and her talks are a real treat and they contain solid stuff. I am very grateful for having had the blessing of her teachings and inspiration.
Mauricio, Maui and Canada

Yoga has been a wonderful journey for me. Yoga has been a precious gift, giving me inner stillness and balance to my busy work and family life. I started yoga 5.5 years ago with Deni Roman in STL, and received an excellent foundation in alignment, and Iyengar and Hatha yoga. Deni has been a constant inspiration, and I would like to think that I am a dedicated yoga student, attending on average two classes a week, and having a daily home practice of yoga and meditation. I feel so much gratitude and love for Deni. Namaste, Koong-Nah, St. Louis

Deni, first of all, I want to Thank You for all you gave to me during my stay in Maui. I truly learned a lot, and felt I was able to integrate all of it into the Mind/Body/Spirit existence, which is ultimately where it is at! Nothing is so constant as the currents of change. NAMASTE, and I hope all is well with you and your "YOGA PATH", Jenny, Tahoe City, CA.

Deni, you made our Maui experience so much better this year, I have your tape and my mat and blocks... trying to get in the habit of making the time to keep up my practice. Thanks! Chris, Alaska

Aloha
Deni, I went surfing today with my newfound "workshop wisdom". On a
smaller wave I decided to do a headstand. (Normally when I do this, I
get upright for a moment and then fall into the water.) Today the
headstand lasted for what seemed like an eternity. The board stayed
level and I must have travelled a good 100 feet on my head. It's safe
to say that my balance has improved.I felt like I was back in class,
stuck against a wall with my feet over my head. It was great! Thanks
again for the book of wisdom, I am looking forward to reading it. Have
a safe flight, Andrew, Maui

Thank you for your assistance, support and inspiration. Your enthusiasm is infectious and I am pleased to say my learnings in Maui have carried forward in my life back here on Vancover Island. I am slowly and quietly transforming my life through awareness and practice! Certainly glad I "stumbled" upon your classes and workshops back in January. Linda, Vancover Island

What is so wonderful about the Transformational Yoga Retreat is Deni Roman. Her life experiences as a mother, athlete, dancer and yoga student combined with her compassion, humour, spirit and communication skills make the timeless wisdom of Yoga, Hinduism and Buddhist precepts accessible and compelling. In the tradition of the great gurus and lamas her teaching ranges from fundamental to magical. The seminar was and is a wonderful gift that can be enjoyed and cherished for the rest of your life. There are many roads in life but ultimately only one path. I highly recommend you take advantage of this unique opportunity. Edward, president Showcase Media and former producer for ABC News (Southeast Asia).
