Inspiration

This invocation is a prayer honoring and expressing respect to Patanjali, the Indian sage and author of The Yoga Sutras. The Sutras are the text that first presented the art of yoga.

yogena cittasya padena vacam
Let us bow before the noblest of sages,

malam sarirasya ca vaidyakena
Patanjali, who gave yoga for serenity and sanctity of mind,

yopakarottam pravaram muninam
grammar for clarity and purity of speech,

patanjalim pranjaliranato'smi
and medicine for perfection of health.

abahu purusakaram
I Salute Adisvara (the Primeval Lord Siva)

sankha cakrasi dharinam
who taught first the science of Hatha

sahasra sirasam svetam
Yoga - a science that stands out as a ladder

pranamami patanjalim
for those who wish to scale the heights of Raja Yoga.

Sacred Alter

Create a place in your home to feel at peace. Bring a sense of the sacred into your living space.Take the time to choose carefully what you place on your alter, bedside table, mantle, shelf. Each item should have meaning and spiritual symbolism. The altar is a visible reminder of the invisible realities of the spiritual realms.Change the order and the energy of your sacred alters often. Every morning light a candle and insense for gratitude.

Nelson Mandala
Our deepest fear Is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be. You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, It’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, Our presence automatically liberates others.

Accept what is in front of you, without wanting the situation to be other than it is. Study the natural order of things and work with it, rather than against it. For to try to change what is - only sets up resistance. Nature provides everything, without requiring payment or thanks and provides for all without discrimination. Therefor let us present the same face to everyone and treat all men as equals. However they may behave. In this clarity of a still and open mind truth will be reflected. Lao Tsu
